Gifts from Your IRA – Qualified Charitable Distributions
If you’re 70½ or older, you can make a powerful difference for Archē Classical Academy and enjoy potential tax benefits by donating directly from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA).
A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA to a qualified nonprofit like Archē Classical Academy. This type of gift can count toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) and may also reduce your taxable income — even if you don’t itemize deductions.
New in 2025
The IRS now allows a one-time, lifetime gift of up to $54,000 from your IRA to fund certain life-income gifts such as a Charitable Gift Annuity or Charitable Remainder Trust. Your financial or tax advisor can help you determine if this option aligns with your goals.
How It Works
- You must be age 70½ or older at the time of the gift.
- The distribution must be made directly from your IRA to Archē Classical Academy.
- You can give up to $108,000 in 2025 through QCDs that are excluded from your taxable income.
- QCDs can satisfy all or part of your RMD for the year.
Benefits of Giving Through Your IRA
- Reduce your taxable income.
- Satisfy your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).
- Support Archē’s mission to provide a Christ-centered, classical education that prepares students to excel academically and utilize their God-given talents.
Example: How a Qualified Charitable Distribution Gift Can Benefit You and Archē
Mary, age 73, wants to give $10,000 to Archē. She instructs her IRA custodian to transfer $10,000 directly to Archē Classical Academy.
Because the funds go directly from her IRA to Archē:
- The $10,000 counts toward her RMD.
- The gift is not included in her taxable income.
- Archē receives the full $10,000 to support its students and teachers.
